Making health care centers beautiful for moms
On September 29, Cradle Cincinnati and our partners came together to re-dedicate the Winton Hills Health Center. More than 100 volunteers and 15 local businesses contributed to a months-long transformation designed to encourage moms to get more prenatal care.A partnership between Cradle Cincinnati and ArtWorks, this transformation is the second of its kind in Cincinnati. Projects included 4 custom-made, large-scale digital wall vinyls, 30 works of art created in collaboration with neighborhood families, over 100 gallons of fresh paint, 14 exam rooms with new ceiling tile and signage, updated furniture and a redesigned office for moms and babies.44% of women on Medicaid in Hamilton County do not receive adequate prenatal care, putting them at a higher risk for preterm birth and infant death. Creating a more welcoming environment for care has been shown to increase patient engagement.
The partnership totaled $130,000 in donations and included:
- LPK Design and RCF Group create a calming space for moms and babies. A team of interior designers donated over $10K in services and materials to transform the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) office. WIC provides nutrition support, health screenings and resources for moms with young children and babies.
- KDM P.O.P. Solutions Group gives back. Retail solutions company KDM P.O.P. donated over $20K in new signage, wall graphics, sinks, countertops and retail expertise as part of their annual company-wide give back campaign.
- Additional business partner donations. Material support and more was provided by United Maier Signs, Inc., TriVersity Craft Force, Messer Construction, The Nelson Stark Company, B.L. Spille Construction, Inc., Interface, Tepe Landscape and Design Group, Sherwin Williams, SBM Management Services, AJ’s Tree Service, Southern Ohio Door Controls, Planes Moving & Storage and the P&G Fund.
- Art from the community. ArtWorks engaged local artist and art therapist, Holly Risch, to lead 4 youth Apprentices in co-creating art with local families in the community. Together, they produced 35 original artworks for the health center.
- Volunteer driven. Over 100 volunteers from community groups, high schools, universities and the Winton Hills neighborhood donated weekends to give extra love to a worthy care facility.
Winton Hills Health Center is one of three centers run by the WinMed Health Services.
