Supporting Black Families with Pampers and Kroger
Anticipation and excitement are common emotions felt by many new and expecting parents prior to the arrival of their baby.
But for a Black parent, the pregnancy journey is often filled with challenges as they navigate a health system that has consistently failed them. In the U.S., Black mothers are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their counterparts of other backgrounds and ethnicities [1] despite 60% of all maternal deaths being preventable[2]. Cradle Cincinnati is committed to bringing together community members, healthcare partners, parents, agencies and organizations to help ensure that families in Hamilton County experience healthy pregnancies. To continue expanding its impact, Cradle Cincinnati is thrilled to announce a partnership with Pampers and Kroger to help address the systemic issues that prevent Black moms from receiving equitable healthcare.
The partnership invites consumers to join in the fight for Black maternal health equity by raising funds that will help to raise the quality of care for Black parents in the Cincinnati region. For every purchase of Pampers diaper boxes at participating Kroger stores in Southern Ohio, Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky from July 20 until August 16, 2022, $5 will be donated to Cradle Cincinnati, up to $50,000.
“We are grateful for the support of this partnership in combating disparities in infant mortality and birth outcomes across Cincinnati. This year, the city hit its lowest rate since we founded Cradle Cincinnati in 2013, and race continues to be the major driver. Our Black families are losing babies at a rate nearly 5 times more than our White families. We’re encouraged that the efforts in stress reduction and healthcare equity for Black moms continue to drive a reduction in preterm births and subsequent mortalities, but there is much work to be done,” said Dr. Meredith Shockley-Smith, Executive Director of Cradle Cincinnati.
Thank you, Pampers and Kroger, for supporting our work!
