2019 Safe Sleep for Babies Month Events and Activities
On average, about 13 babies die of sleep-related causes in Hamilton County every year. This year, the number of deaths is trending up. Bed-sharing, or sleeping on the same surface as a baby, accounted for the majority of these deaths. Babies sleep safest Alone, on their Backs and in Cribs.
Safe Sleep for Babies Month is recognized nationally every October. Here’s how Cradle Cincinnati partners are promoting safe sleep this month.
- The city of North College Hill declared October as Safe Sleep for Babies Month.
- The North College Hill Fire Department will conduct safe sleep ambassador trainings with staff and provide safe sleep outreach to families.
- Branding firm Deskey developed an expansive social media campaign that dives into the hows and whys of safe sleep. Follow along on Cradle Cincinnati’s Facebook page and download safe sleep images and messaging on Cradle Cincinnati’s website.
- Hamilton County Public Health and Cradle Cincinnati will release a new report on safe sleep in Hamilton County.
- Safe sleep information will be shared at all 12 participating locations in the First Ladies for Health Family Health Day on October 13.
- A new radio ad, voiced by local mom Lavenia Jones, will air on Pandora stations.
- Billboards featuring room-sharing messaging will be up in Cradle Cincinnati Connections priority zip codes.
- Parents of NICU graduates discuss why they practice safe sleep in a new video that will be played in all NICUs in greater Cincinnati.
- Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services will send safe sleep messaging to all of their clients via calls and texts.
- Members of the Cradle Cincinnati Connections North College Hill Advisory Board will host infant safe sleep trainings for families in their neighborhood.
- Queens Village, DeevahD, BlaCk Coffee and Cradle Cincinnati hosted an intimate discussion on parental exhaustion and infant sleep with moms in our community on September 26. A full video of this discussion is available on Youtube.
- Local WIC offices will distribute Sleep Baby, Safe and Snug books to families.
